JZ Interior Design, founded by Jalal and Sirine Zeitoune, was established in November 2016. Jalal was ready to hit the ground running after encountering a few setbacks interviewing at other places in the industry. Jalal went home one evening to announce that he would like to start a company, and to his surprise, his wife Sirine was immediately on board. She knew he could use this opportunity to create what he had always wanted to see in a company himself throughout his many years of experience. “The sky is the limit” is what they had in mind.
The first year the company took on a natural cycle of trials and tribulations. Starting a company from the ground up is no easy feat. JZ Interior Design was originated in their family home in Sugarland, Texas, where they entertained and saw through their first projects. It was not until February of 2018 when they started really searching for a permanent office space. Finding their current location at Pennzoil Place was just the beginning of what was to come in the following years.
Jalal took on the project of JZ’s office, signing the contracts in April of 2018, in hopes of creating the perfect office space to begin to cultivate the business that they had envisioned. Adding Principal David Henderson to the team was a pivotal point in the foundation of the company. David was hired in November of 2018 and brought with him a wealth of knowledge and relationships that would begin to build the diverse clientele that JZ has today. While the office renovation was still underway, JZ took occupancy July of 2019, a couple months after being awarded their biggest project to date, Shriners Hospital in Galveston, Texas. This ongoing project, approximately 110,000 SF with added scope as of 2021, has had a hardworking team of five committed to seeing it through to its success. Shriners Hospital, along with the many projects that David brought on board through his wide range of relationships, would go on to be a large contributing factor in bringing JZ Interior Design to the next level. Jalal had no doubt that his highly talented team would do whatever is necessary to deliver this project. The hard work and contribution in addition to David’s leadership is what lead to a happy client and successful project.
In addition to Shriners, JZ was awarded a job with Camillo in early 2018, another notable project for the growth of the company. It was these projects that allowed JZ to push their boundaries and expand into their current team.
JZ Interior Design today is made up of a team of Architects, Designers, Graphic Designers, and sharp minds alike that all contribute – as Jalal would have it – equally to the company. In his words “We are all part of one team; if you take care of your employees, they will take care of the company.” JZ Interior Design is run on the basis of fostering its employees – their wellbeing, their education, their family needs, and simply taking the time to personally celebrate birthdays. JZ wants to make clear that their employees are crucial to running a smooth business. Met, of course, with happy clients and projects well done. Jalal recalls many times in his life when he was given opportunities, namely the opportunity to start his own business, and this is what motivates him to give those same kinds of opportunities to his team. He wants to see his talented employees succeed and ultimately carry on the JZ name.
Jalal thinks back to what advice he would give to other entrepreneurs looking to start a business and he quotes the movie Field of Dreams, saying “If you build it, they will come”, however, Jalal says, “You have to build it right”.
